It is very likely that you have experienced grief and loss during your lifetime and it is also possible that you were not emotionally equipped to deal with it. Most of us have no idea how to deal with feelings of loss and too often the consequences are severe. All of the clichés about moving on and just be strong or time will heal are just empty, ineffective phrases and are not helpful to the griever.
How do we even recognize each loss occurrence, much less process all the feelings that accompany them? When we lose a family member, partner, friend, pet, or any loved one, we mourn for the relationship that will never be again. When we are terminated from a job, are forced to forfeit our home, when our health is challenged, and our lifestyle is compromised, there is a great sense of loss and grief.
The Grief Recovery Method , which I implement, is an action-based program that helps unravel the layers that accumulate when grief is not properly addressed. Its principles identify misconceptions about grief and recovery, recognize negative patterns and behaviors that nurture and sustain grief, and provide an effective pathway toward healing.
Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss. It is not a condition that should require therapeutic or medical treatment. However, grievers often experience feelings of isolation, anger, sleeplessness, fear, rejection, anxiety and distrust. Out of desperation they frequently turn to medication, drugs, alcohol, and sex to obliterate their pain. Or they seek out traditional therapy and grief support groups. Unfortunately none of these typically benefit the griever long-term. Until the griever finds completion with the unfinished emotions and pain that can paralyze and sabotage, there can be no real quality of life. This process is effective both individually or in a group format for 8 sessions. There is a beginning, middle, and end, after which you will hopefully greet life with a whole new perspective and a deeper understanding of yourself.
